American version of comedy, The Office, suffers fall in the ratings
The US remake of the hit British televison comedy, The Office - starring Ricky Gervais as David Brent, has had a fall in ratings since being moved to a new timeslot.
The first episode of the new comedy series went out on a Thursday night and attracted over 11 million viewers. But the Tuesday night show (which was always scheduled to be the regular time slot) was seen by 5.9 million comedy fans.
The American version of the comedy show, which moves the office from Slough in the UK, to Scranton in Pennsylvania, has Ricky Gervais and writing partner Stephen Merchant as executive producers.
The second episode of the comedy sitcom came fourth in the ratings and was beaten by medical drama House, starring British comedy actor Hugh Laurie.
Ricky Gervais has had a varied career including delivering pizzas, being a DJ for a London radio station and managing the pop group Suede. His comedy routines include stand-up comedy, The 11 O'Clock Show and Meet Ricky Gervais, before finding success in as a writer and star of The Office, alongside Mackenzie Crook, Oliver Chris and Lucy Davis.
